I have always loved this idea of having two lives in one lifetime. What a gift. The old life may not seem like a gift now - it was hell, in fact - but it seems to lay the groundwork for where I am now and today. Without the pain and suffering I went through back then, I wouldn't have gone to AA and really learn how to grow and live and give.
