you dont have to go out with them and you dont have to beat yourself up either. It takes some courage to do what your doing and I think your right about picking up if you go out I would have in early days and today I am not interested in being in that environment its boring.
As to telling others your an alcoholic, no rush to do that, wait until your comfortable.
