another part of me is like well he's clean/sober now
Maybe and maybe not there are drugs all the the prisons and jails that being beside the point you really have no clue if he wants recovery and being clean in prison is very different than recovery.
I sounds to me like he treated you different than anyone you ever dated he made you feel special he gave you parts of that Cinderella"dream" but the truth is he is an addict just like the others you described he just played the game different.
Keep working on you and your sobriety and get the life YOU deserve.
