Yes, it didn't work. It was me and some family members, but our boundaries were so weak that when AH insisted he wasn't drinking we all said okay and slinked off like we'd violated him.

Of course he was drinking.

The thing about interventions as I understand it is that they are designed to "bring the bottom up" -- i.e. to hasten the addict's fall by yanking the rug of support out -- so the friends and family have to be willing to stick to their guns and be willing to walk away from the addict if they refuse treatment.

We weren't ready for that. At that point none of us knew how bad it actually was, and his alcoholism was very much advanced. We still thought we could ***help*** him achieve sobriety and that our love and well wishes would lift him up. We could not.
