"Bill W." The Movie

I just saw it in the theater tonight and really enjoyed it. It's the life story of Bill W, one of the founders of AA. It gave me a new appreciation for the 12 steps and the 12 traditions and recovery programs in general.

What I found most interesting is the idea that AA was formed from a spiritual foundation, but that Bill W was very aware that by making it seem like a Christian-based organization, it would turn some people off. Hence the "higher power of your own understanding" verbiage. It's funny because the #1 criticism I hear about AA and Al Anon is that it's "too religious" when, according to this film, the founder strove to make it as non-religious as possible.

Really got a lot out of seeing this film!
