I'm still in early sobriety approaching a year this weekend.

In even earlier sobriety we suffered a miscarriage and the grief certainly compelled me to desire the drink.

What I took from that experience was that I had been covering up my pain and misfortunes with alcohol for years and thereby depriving myself of living life to its' fullest.

Life includes pain, sadness and heartache. Experiencing these things makes us human. Depriving ourselves of these things robs us of our humanity and and our ability to connect with others and ourselves.

This helped me to see that this experience was literally a once in a lifetime experience. I may never suffer another miscarriage. And If I do I will be at a different place and it will be the 2nd time not the 1st time. This experience provided the opportunity to experience feelings otherwise impossible. through it I experienced much healing and reconnection with self and others.

Your sister will never pass from this life again, this is a once in a lifetime experience for you; experience it.
