Good Point and I agree...

...though Paxton's resonates differently with me-- sort of sad, melancholy and painful.

Ramblin' around this dirty old town
Singin' for nickels and dimes
Times getting tough; I ain't got enough
To buy a little bottle of wine
CHORUS
Little hotel, older than Hell
Dark as the coal in the mine
Blankets are thin; I lay there and grin
'Cause I got a little bottle of wine
CHORUS
Pain in my head and bugs in my bed

Pants are so old that they shine
Out on the street, tell the people I meet
Won'cha buy me a bottle of wine
CHORUS
Well the preacher will preach; teacher will teach
A miner will dig in the mine
I ride the rods, trusting in God
A-huggin' my bottle of wine
CHORUS

my point being, there have always been songs that glamorize the darker side.........
