Since he is an ex now I wouldn't spend any time trying to figure it out. It is taking up space in your head.
I said the Serenity Prayer to myself countless times each day and it really did help.
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
