I have been on anywhere from 2-8 mg of xanax per day for many years and am attempting to sober up. It's been my experience that xanax withdrawals can be very tough. A doctor may want to switch you over to another benzo with a longer half life for a taper, since xanax has such a short half life. Since xanax withdrawal can be dangerous, you'll definitely need to talk to your doctor.
