Objectively looking at it, and just having the information from your post, you very definitely did the right thing....for you and your kids. What you did was brave and unselfish, it really was. Yeah, I know it hurts right now...ofcourse it does - you have been with him for awhile....and you knew it would hurt, didn't you? And you didn't really pick the time to break up with him - he did, by his actions. It was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. Do not feel badly about this - he was leading you down a path that you know you don't want to go down. I respect you for doing it - he is just playing the guilt card right now. Leave him be, and maybe someday you guys can just be friends....or better yet, he will see things the way they really are and get into recovery himself. Take care of yourself and be with your kids.
