Thank you for your advice, TU, but alas I only have my aged mother who lives 200 miles away. She certainly wouldn't be able to care for me. I had been thinking of giving the pills to my son (24) to look after, but it seems so unfair to place such a responsibility on his already burdened shoulders.
Since you wrote the above I have managed to get myself sober with help from my doctor in the form of sleeping tablets. Not exactly a personal triumph, but it got the job done. This is my second day sober now.
