Everything Changes When That One Thing Changes

Last holiday season, and the one before, and the one before, stretching back year after year after year were just excuses to get even more wasted than normal, even though getting that wasted was abnormal. It was a family tradition. I remember setting out cookies and bourbon for Santa when I was a kid. My dad starting on the special eggnog first thing Xmas morning, sharing with me and the dog. Falling asleep by mid-morning and missing thE dinner My Mom spent days preparing. I learned well. I followed the family holiday tradition, year in, year out. This year I head out of town with my new pup to spend the holiday with my girlfriend who is seven years sober and a friend of Bill's. Me, one thing has changed that I trust will change everything. Tomorrow when I head out will be day 210 for me, my longest period of sobriety in my 50 year drinking career. What will be will be, but it will be sober. God Bless Us, Everyone. Peace to all.
