Weekend Prep Excercise

I know for many of us the weekends can be very trying on our sobriety. Social functions, free time, and ingrained behavior. I generally try to stay very busy doing things I enjoy and avoiding social situations that are heavy on the alcohol. However sometimes I get forced into a face to face confrontation.

A close friend is getting married this weekend and I am a groomsman, so my attendance is mandatory. The event will certainly be a drinking extravaganza. Though I don't have too much trepidation, I always find it helpful to take a few quiet minutes to prepare myself before jumping into the fray. I usually do this by remembering the miseries of my drinking life and the positives of sobriety. I thought I would share with everyone.

I hate:
- hangovers
- wasting $100+ a week on booze
- being a poor husband, son, brother, and friend
- lying
- managing empty bottles
- being unproductive
- eating terribly
- destroying my good health
- putting myself in unnecessarily dangerous situations constantly
- having negative emotions

I like:
- waking up fresh
- getting more done in a sober day than a drunk week
- moving forward in life
- having alert and keen senses
- being funny to others, instead of just thinking I am being funny
- having a sharp mind
- feeling well
- eating well
- having an overall sense of well being
- being a rock to stand on for my loved ones instead of the rock that sinks them
- not looking and smelling like an alcoholic

Please feel free to add your own. You may find it therapeutic and a resolve builder.
