Different AA groups can vary somewhat in their tone and personality, but I can promise you there's no need to worry about being pressured to think a certain way. Newcomers to AA are almost always surprised to find that the people are very friendly, welcoming, and eager to help you - not try to convert you to some specific variety of religion or spirituality.

And it's perfectly natural for you to experience those feelings of remembering how alcohol makes you feel...they will subside over time, so in the meantime please be easy on yourself and don't feel guilty about them. Be proud of the fact that you're getting sober - and have a great time with your friend!
