I also lived in a small town
and was ignored by the police
who drank with my ex.
Make the report anyway.
Then ask for a copy
and let them see you address it to the county seat= the county sheriff.
if you are the county seat -
let them see you address it above their heads.
but make that report.
you may need it later.
I'm also keenly aware of the 'grapevines' in these towns.
