I know someone whose family situation was being considered. Ultimately they decided not to go forward as it seemed more about sensationalism and less about getting the A some help.
The things they had to agree to - the incredible intrusion into every aspect of their private lives - made the $$ not worth it.
Ultimately, the family just wanted their loved one to choose sobriety. Just because someone is on the show does not mean s/he will get sober. I think it can occasionally give them some weird justification for their bad choices.
