My basic response was no I'm not going to tell you what to do anymore I'm not your mother or your boss and I'm not going to go there anymore. Therefore, there is nothing he can do to bring you home.
Do you need more time and distance to work on yourself?
If so, be honest with him and yourself.
I was unable to work on myself and a relationship. I keep wanting to go into rescue mode with the relationship partner.
