A hangover is withdrawal. What I've figured out from just these few days is that obviously alcohol has a much bigger effect on the brain than I realized, and not just to us hard boozers. I know an eye surgeon, social drinker, that will not drink except on Fridays or if he's on vacation. Says there are always surgeries scheduled Monday morning, and if he has a couple glasses of wine on a Saturday night he can notice the very slightest tremor in his hands Monday morning. Takes two days to burn the alcohol out of a very moderate drinker. Something for us all to think about.
