for L2L..marriage as a covenant

as a covenant

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

okay, I have an ideal of marriage.

My off the cuff answer to you the other day would have been that I regard a covenant as more than a contract...that it is a higher personal and spiritual commitment to marriage.
SO, before I answered I looked it up on the web...I was way surprised to learn that there are covenant marriages legally accepted in 3 states.
These require pre-marital counseling, a life long commitment, an agreement to work through marital difficulties andf an agreement to get counseling when needed, it also foregoes no fault divorce.

It is often seen as a religious understanding.

It has been legalized in those 3 states and proposed in many others.
The aims are to reduce children born to single parents, to reduce poverty amongst women and children, to strenghten families and provide stability, economic and other advantage to families, to reduce the divorce rate....and more I am sure I can't recall (all ready! LOL)
