Barb, I have heard of that episode but have not seen it. There is debate right now about bariatric surgery and alcoholism. There is published data showing the absorption and metabolism are affected. There is conflicting evidence of increased alcoholism. The scientific community has not done enough studies to verify the role of bariatric surgery in alcoholism. RAW's psychiatrist is supposed to be getting me some journal publications. It doesn't take a creative mind to link excessive eating to excessive drinking though and I tend to believe the simplest answer is usually the best. Bottom line is the reasons why one becomes an alcoholic does not change the fact that to remain an alcoholic is a matter of daily choice. I am quite aware that all this talk of bariatric surgery may just be enabling.
