Yeah, I think we are all worth 'giving a chance'.
I read your analogy about the lifeboat, but for folks like us, I think a more fitting analogy can be found in the instructions you find on the airplane.
If the plane loses cabin pressure and the emergency oxygen masks drop down, put
yours on
first before you attempt to assist fellow passengers with
theirs.
