I would add to that: "It's fun!"
Fun having hangovers...fun not knowing what I did the night before...fun calling off of work all the time...fun being alone...fun spending all my money on booze...fun getting injured and walking to the ER drunk...etc. Yeah, lots of fun.
I thought the 'fun' part outweighed all the bad. Denial shows itself in many ways.
