We're finally home and he's sound asleep right now. Yes, he has painkillers and they are safely locked up.

He won't know for several weeks if the retina has successfully reattached. The back of his eye was lasered, stitched, a gas bubble pumped in, and a silicone band permanently attached to hold the repaired retina in place.

The surgery took almost two hours and, I don't know how he did it, but he watched almost the entire thing with the aid of a mirror. The stuff he was describing made my stomach do somersaults!

I couldn't think of anything to ask after the surgery because my brain froze up, but he has a follow up tomorrow morning and that's when I'll ask about the macula. If it was also detached he probably won't regain the vision he's lost, but as long as the repair was successful, he won't lose any more.

Thank you for all your prayers and thoughts. We were all so calm and I know it's because so many people were lifting us up
