A lot of people say that people who become addicted to drugs are suffering from the same character defects that other addicts suffer from. They seem to be bad traits like selfishness, impulsivisity, etc



Do you agree? I posted a poll and welcome your answers, whether you're adopting a secular approach or not!

IMO, They don't. Anyone who does drugs long enough will become addicted to them. I think sites like the one above are a product of AA thinking that emphasize the spiritual defect concept. To think that addicts were born with spiritual maladies doesn't make me question my moral nature at all (because I've already made a moral assessment of myself lol), but I know it deeply affects other people, in either a positive or negative way.

I'm not referring to people who have been diagnosed with another condition such as severe depression and anxiety, which may spur drug use more in some than others.
