Wow. That was extremely informative to me. Just before I had gotten on this forum, I had sent an e-mail to a friend discussing the fact that I thought drugs were only a symptom of my addict SIL's more serious mental problem. But after reading this post, I see how it probably is the addiction itself that IS the mental problem. This is all so confusing and hard to comprehend. Thank you for the clarification.
