Well, for those who are interested it looks like the shooter is dead and the house he was hiding in was half burned down by a smoke bomb thrown in to get him to come out.

I suspect they will find he died of "other causes" well before the fire started.
The house was owned by weekenders.
Sad thing is I may have been acquainted with a member of the slain Trooper's family (years ago).
I just don't understand it when these types of things happen.
