In a world where chaos reigns, holding onto tangible goods provides a sense of stability and control over your surroundings.

It took me a long time to get to where I could get rid of no longer needed/wanted items too. Now husband and I go through once per year and do a 'cleanout' of junk. We rotate which areas get cleaned out. This year it was the kitchen. I think we created 3 entire empty cabinets.

I take everything except the clothes to work with me and put them out for whomever wants them, with the understanding that anything leftover is going to Goodwill (so no one feels guilty taking the items). I think I've helped furnish/outfit at least 2 households by now. And I know the item is going to someone who could really use it.

We do "computer" cleanouts probably twice a year, but that's because husband has a business/hobby of repairing other people's computers, so we collect a lot of dead/obsolete electronic junk.

It really is liberating, isn't it?
