I can relate to that. My younger brother got sober through AA and was considered an AA guru and I said that there was no way I was going to go to meetings and have to be the "little brother." Also, although I live in a big city our neighborhood was like Mayberry - everyone knew what your business was. I put myself through ten more years of misery believing that I couldn't do AA. There are other ways, lots of them, but AA worked for me.
Sorry for the wisecrack earlier. I coudn't resist. Kinda like I could never resist a beer in front of me.
Good luck whatever route you take, but keep coming here. It is a good place.
