For those of you who desire spiritual change, the good news is that there are plenty of things you can do to foster spiritual growth. If you feel like there’s more to life than your current experience, an inward journey may be just what you need to fill your sense of emptiness and guide you towards the inner peace and joy you’ve been looking for. Of course, this can look differently for different people. In essence, spirituality involves being able to enjoy who you truly are and where you are in your journey at the present moment.

Whether it’s in the context of a church, a spiritual center, yoga or qi gong classes, true spiritual growth comes when you’re taking time to focus on your inner self. If you need some guidance in the process, here are 5 things you can do to foster growth—wherever you’re at in your spiritual journey.

No matter what spirituality means to you, it can bring you the inner peace and joy you've been looking for. Here are 5 things you can do to help you find your own version of happiness.

1. Meditate.

Many spiritual seekers take up meditation in order to get in touch with themselves. To meditate simply means to sit quietly, focus on your breath and be present. It is a discipline that helps people quiet the restless mind. Through the regular practice of meditation, your thought life can simmer down which can lead to a sense of inner peace. You can start with meditating just five minutes per day and increase as you can. Many spiritual seekers typically spend about 15 to 30 minutes each day in meditation.

2. Self-Educate.

Inspire yourself by reading books about spirituality. Many people have written on the topic and share their own experiences. As you learn various tips and spiritual techniques, try them out for yourself and see what helps you.

3. Join Others in Their Journey.

Oftentimes if you connect yourself with others who are pursuing spirituality, you’ll also find yourself growing more. You may get tips that you otherwise wouldn’t arrive at on your own or perhaps attend spiritual gatherings together. It’s always a pleasant experience when you’re surrounded by like-minded people.

4. Attend Spiritual Gatherings.

Whether it’s a spiritual teaching, a spiritual center or a conference, it’s a great idea to get out there and attend spiritual gatherings. Many people feel doing so helps them remember that they are not alone in their experiences.

5. Spend time in nature.

Many seekers state that they feel spiritual depth while they are in nature so get outdoors as often as you can. Quiet your mind and enjoy the beauty of Mother Earth. As you do so, you’re apt to feel more in tune with yourself and your Creator.

Many people report that making the decision to foster spiritual growth has given them inner peace and joy. Keep in mind, however, that this is a journey without an exact destination. It’s the kind of journey you embark on everyday—but one that ultimately brings you closer to yourself.
