Hi everyone, Iím in no way vain whatsoever but now that I am focused on recovery I wonder if any one can shed light on when shaky hands and bloated face disappear? Iím embarrassed about seeing my colleagues but it wasnít an issue when I was drinking daily. Day 4 and thanks ☺️

I would hope the shaky hands and bloated face will ease up in the next few days. The first few weeks require a lot from our bodies, so it does take some time. Congratulations on Day 4!

I agree the shaky hands, heart palpitations, sweats etc disappear in a few days. For the rest give yourself a month. The improvement in oneís face, skin eyes, everything is just so worth it.

Keep going! By 6 mo everyone was astonished and my skin and eyes and hair (that was incredible bc it was so thin and destroyed, see my current profile pic!) are just about the best looking they've been as an adult. 39 to 43 in a week is a lovely place to be for every reason.

Face bloat goes away relatively quickly, at least for me it usually did. I think my hands will always have a bit of a tremor as they did even before I began drinking heavily. Unfortunately, the drinking probably made that worse.

I am a bit late to this, but I would really love to get more activity going on in this section!
I am on Day 2 and I have noticed my skin and hair are awful, obviously never noticed it when I was drinking! I found some really good face masks in my dresser which I have started using and it does make a difference. My hair is a wreak so i think I may just get it cut and then start using proper conditioners
My hands tremble occasionally but I think that's down to not eating properly for a while

Glad this popped up again with nightshade's post!

A couple more notes - I had beautiful handwriting for the longest time, decades really. It was destroyed by the hand shaking - it truly just stabilized noticeably to me, in the last 2 wks! A bit thrown again by the pain meds I've taken since surgery, but I was thrilled to see the hint of the good stuff!

And, my weight has fluctuated based on exercise and eating...I ate a ton of ice cream that first year but I had a very active server job (ugh the stairs to the busy patio!!). I somehow have a fundamentally strong body, it seems, where my norm can still be on the "thin side of normal" I guess, but vanity does have me disliking that stomach when undressed!!

I should have asked first off - how are you doing, absolutezero?? About 6-7 wks from your first post I think.

Nightshade-

I have lost 60 lbs since I quit drinking and I have had a lot of people not recognize me. It really is amazing how your body heals itself with time.

I suggest taking a multivitamin, fish oil, and drink a lot of water. I love hot tea & yogurt too. Exercise is a great thing too once you feel like it.

Self care is so important in recovery!! A good hair cut will make you feel great.

Not looking like a drunk is one of the best side effects of recovery. It does wonders for ones confidence.

Well said, Callas!

I ran ran into an old drinking buddy yesterday. Havenít seen her since I quit 15 months ago. She said, ďYou look differentĒ. I responded that I had gotten my hair cut. And she said, ďNo, thereís something different about you. Youíre glowing.Ē

I took that as a major statement about my post drinking appearance.

Physical change will will happen with sobriety.
