Good morning everyone! So glad yesterday is (soberly) behind me! Hot and complicated …

Today is a busy work day, but for myself: Either walk or go to the gym at lunch.

Wishing you all a wonderful day! I'm looking forward to checking in this evening and seeing what you all did for yourselves today.

Good morning ladies.

Welcome Zoey and pathway

This morning I went to my group power lifting class at 6am. I am grateful to be able to head to work today after a very long and hot holiday weekend. I plan to do some more reading on the keto diet, since I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes last week

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Barbs- I am sorry to here about your pre-diabetes but at least you know now and can do whatever the doctor says. The power lifting class sounds great. I would love to try something like that.

Zoey- the holiday's can be hard at first. I remember my first sober 4th of July. It was so awkward. It does get a lot better and easier. I hope you have a great day...it sounds like it will pass by quick.

I had a protein shake with spinach for breakfast and I am going to the gym soon. I talked to my mom a lot this morning too.

Thank you Anna for the new thread!!

Welcome PTF and Zoey. Great thread here!

PTF, I'll use 'food sobriety' instead of 'abstinence' because not everyone knows the OA term for not compulsively eating. Alcohol in any form includes of course booze but also food containing alcohol and food made with sugar. Sugar to me is the same as alcohol. I also use the term 'obvious sugar' which is desserts, cookies, candy, cake, etc. I don't eat sugar free foods either as they are too much like the real thing. Just as I wouldn't drink a so-called alcohol-free drink. Again, too much like the real thing.

All that said above, I had a hard weekend: depression, lethargy and some poor food choices. Just when I think my dark times are gone, I have a minor slip into what used to be a way of life for me.

Today is about taking action to feel better: I've had some quiet time, checked in with you all, and it's time to get to work (literally, I have to start work now). Spin at 11am and then outside at 3p for a brisk walk, maybe little jog too. Salmon and vegetables dinner. I bet I'll feel better tomorrow.

Barbs, I sooooo need to powerlift! You go!

Midwest, I'll toss some spinach into my smoothie!

Ringo, sugar, arggggg! One afternoon I ate four chocolate chip cookies and a pint of B&J ice cream. Fortunately, that urge has passed. Back to healthier eating (not healthy, mind you, but healthier ).

My one thing today: working late unfortunately, but coming home to some peaceful serenity with the dogs, taking a few minutes to look up at the Vermont night sky.

Good morning ladies.

MW, I always put spinach in my protein smoothies too, lol. I had a long phone call with my mom last night too. It was one of those calls when all we did was laugh. It felt so good. We need to cherish our moms while we can

Ringo, I hope your feeling better this morning. I love your attitude of taking action to feel better. I have to remember that the next time my anxiety acts up .

Zoey, last Friday when I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes, I went and got my last ice cream (large chocolate chip with chocolate sprinkles). No more sugar for me and only very low carbs.

I usually have Wednesdays off but I have to work today. I hit the gym for a quick workout and checking in here. Having my usual smoothie for breakfast, spinach salad with chicken for lunch and some nice salmon and broccoli for dinner.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

btw, Lucy and Harley have gotten so big and super sweet. I will have to post a new picture when I have a chance

Good morning wonderful ladies!

Barbs the salmon and broccoli sounds delish for dinner!

Zoey welcome, I always find peace in the night sky.

Midwest, I love my spinach, haven't thrown it in a smoothie yet...

Ringo your frank conversations about OA have been immensely helpful to me. After I got over the sugar cravings doing this elimination diet, I started to really examine my relationship with food. Dh is doing keto and I am going to move to paleo to join him next week - I mean they are so similar anyways.

So much to do this week, we have a super busy weekend, Friday we are going to a burlesque show, wedding Saturday. I need my eyebrows dealt with, gotta get panty hose - 'tis the season again. I need a new pair of daytime shoes LOL I have literally worn the sole off the ones I have and it's weird because I was always a shoe a holic. I remember one company I worked at, the one guy asked if I ever wore the same pair twice LOL Everything changes.

Have a great Wednesday ladies, kiddos are back to school! Yaya for me time!

Thanks gals, I am feeling better. It helps me greatly to do what I say I'm going to do, ie, I kept to my plans yesterday, didn't cancel anything.

MLH, thank you. Mr. Ringo and I did Paleo for awhile last year. I liked it but not enough to keep at it.

Barbs, your food yesterday was very similar to mine, except for the morning smoothie. My food M-F is protein and vegetables with a tiny bit of fruit. I leave starch for the weekend, hopefully not too much (smile).

In early 2000's (maybe 2003 or '04) I was diagnosed pre-diabetic when the new chart came out. Took an RX for awhile but then realized if I clean up my food and stay active, I won't need the meds. Within, say 6 months, I was no longer pre-diabetic. I'm also maintaining a 30 lb weight loss.

Hello Team! I am new/old to this thread. I have not been on SR for quite a while and have - of course - relapse. But, after a hard stupid night of drinking and blacking out for the millionth time, I said a prayer to myself - which was hard/weird as I am not religious - and asked for help. I want to be sober - this is my gift to myself/my family today. So, day one (again). Wishing everyone the very best today. I plan on eating healthy, cutting sugar, and starting running again. Maybe not all at once - but baby steps. xo Panacea

Time I posted more here; good to see the names I remember.

Today I attended my gentle-exercise class, which always feels beneficial;
and took some time afterwards to visit a local park and contemplate the trees and grass and various cute dogs being walked. Nice images to take away with me

For myself today: Getting my hair done. EEEEKKK! It's a nightmare. Love reading dopey fashion magazines at the salon …

Stay strong, and do something special for yourselves today! Sober Thursday here.

Good morning ladies.

Ringo, you're story inspires me. I'm hoping with so tweaks to my diet I can avoid meds. I'm trying keto. There really isn't much more I can do. I already work out a considerable amount and I'm not sure I can/want to loose anymore wait. I have a follow-up in 6 months so I'll see how it goes.

Zoey, I need a hair cut too. I'm waiting a little longer than usual because I want it done just before I head out to Atlanta for my son's 3rd and final wedding reception, lol!

Carmel, I always love stills through the park and watch all the goings ons, lol. Good for you for getting to the gym

Panacea, I love that you turned to prayer for help. You can never go wrong with that. Welcome back

MLH, I always love hearing about everything you have going on, lol. You lead a very different life than me

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

I spent time with my daughter last night. She was really tired and slightly weepy. Up until now, I have always been too "busy" - cooking dinner - and drinking to just stop, sit on her bed and talk. It felt good.

This morning I have already had 24 oz of water (trying to increase my intake radically), logged into SR (obviously) and have logged into my weight loss app. All this is geared toward me be more conscious of my actions and trying to take care of myself. Oh, and I went to be at 10 pm. Crazy dreams - I scared the cat when I bolted upright in bed. But, it is good not to be hung over this morning and to remember conversations from last night.

Strength and Peace to all - Panacea

Good morning beauties!

Ringo, thank you for sharing your story, I really do find it inspirational.

Welcome Panacea and Caramel!

Zoey, I love getting my hair done, mostly for the great head massage.

Barbs, I think you will like keto - it is definitely a lifestyle. There is a movie called The Magic Pill, netflix or youtube. It is, well I think it speaks to everyone different, I come at it from a totally different perspective growing up and still being involved in agriculture, so there are some, stretches of the truth... Other than that, it is great.

I have nothing exciting going on today. Debating mani and pedi at home by myself, or at a spa, if I can get in, do I really want to wear heels Saturday or should I find flats, but then I need a new clutch... What way does my fascinator actually go and should I just bite the bullet and make a hair appointment for Saturday and have it put in by my hairdresser. Such first world problems - sometimes I think I am a bit ridiculous, people worrying about real things and I'm over here, if I just buy a pair of $50 insoles I don't need another pair of shoes... or rolling my eyes as my farrier complains I have diamonds on the horses hooves... (they were fake jewels, we were in a costume class at a show, the darn things lasted 3 weeks!)

Good morning everyone! Wow, yesterday was a tough one. The wine was calling me all the way home, but I settled for seltzer and a splash of pomegranate. Toughest sober night in a long time … wine is my absolute weakness! Ugh, hope I have a better weekend (but weekends are tough). Sigh …

Getting hair done was really great yesterday. For today: Go to the gym (I'm listening to The Naked Mind podcasts while I work out … feel kind of mixed about her stuff, but I'm staying with it a while longer).

Hope you all have a wonderful Friday!

good morning! It is nice to see all the new people and the people returning! I think it is really important to take care of yourself when you quit drinking. It has really boosted my self esteem and I needed that. I am leaving for my girl trip soon so I won't post for a week or so.

Zoeydog- I'll have to check out the naked mind. I have been listening to "Therapy Thoughts" and I think it is really good. great job getting through last night. Just play that tape forward to Monday morning and how good you are going to feel.

Panacea- welcome back! I am glad you are feeling better! Those dreams will go away.

Caramel- welcome back! It is always good to see you here.

Ringo- I am glad you stuck with your plan yesterday and are feeling better.

Helen- I hope work is going well...I am sure your busy getting into the new routine.

Anna- I hope you are getting out and enjoying walks before the weather gets cold.

MLH- haha your problems sound like mine! Keep us updated about the fascinator. I always do my pedi's at home.

Barbs- I hope you have a nice time in Atlanta when you go.
