SMART recovery?

Hi Ladies. I am on day 32 and been to AA but wondering about SMART recovery. Has anyone ever been to any of their meetings? I was going to attend one tonight but the timing was off. Just haven’t heard much about it on SR so thought I’d ask about anyone’s experience. TIA

I have heard many good things about SMART meetings. Here are a bunch of threads discussing this:

Thanks for this, Anna, but the link wouldn’t open to posts.

I found this link to the SMART website under the "recovery programs" thread under the "alcoholism" tab. Also you can search for threads on this site through the search function on the top headings bar (desktop version). I'm sure it's also available on the mobile version somewhere.

The groups I've been to start with a check in- you can skip or pass if you just want to listen, usually a general theme from the check in is chosen which we do an activity around. My fav is the cost benefit analysis which is like a long term pro/-cons list. At the end of the meeting we go back around the group to check out, some people will set their intentions for the week etc.

I like that they break down recovery into 4 parts : building motivation, coping with urges, managing thoughts and emotions, and living a balanced life. It's a very straight forward program that gave me a ton of tools, similar to therapy. If I drank for certain reasons then I need healthier coping mechanisms. Best of luck to you
