Hi, I'm ChickenStu

This looks like the best place to introduce myself. I'm Stu, 32 married with kids. I was a raging alcoholic for five years, and it nearly destroyed everything. On May 5 2010, after drinking a litre bottle of vodka near enough to myself in one evening - I kind of had to face facts and admit I had a problem.

Less than a week later, I went to the Doctor and was prescribed librium, and another 5 days later I was in AA. It's been 7 months now. My marriage in repairing itself, I'm working through the steps with my sponsor (currently on Step 5) and still attend 3 or more meetings a week. I have a new job and things seem to be going well.

Anyway, was just browsing stuff about alcoholism, and stumbled across this forum! Nice to meet you all.

Hi stu as someone who has finally admitted openly I'm an alcoholic I must congratulate you on being three years sober. Wow that's great. I must admit for the first time in a long time I had a bit of a giggle near the end of this thread. Initially I thought it was started today then I see you popping up in 2012 and again today that's great. I hope I have the same fortune as you.

Thanks for checking in!

This thread is amazing--there are posts from 2010 by Sneezy, Suki, and Least. Those three are all still active here!

To be honest with you Dee, I always get antsy when an anniversary is coming up cause it's that time in particular I'm afraid of screwing up.

I'm kind of wishing away the days until the anniversary gets here. It's going to be a long ten days.

Dee74 04-23-2013 04:50 PM

I understand - but try to think of it rationally...there's no real reason for you to slip up now - in fact there's a 1000 plus days behind you that say you won't. :)

Thanks for your kind words Dee. But I'm still wishing away my life until the actual day gets here...

Congratulations chickenstu!

Like you I get nervous of anniversaries, as I am a big reward person. Have you ever celebrated your years or months w a special treat? Interested in ideas besides my usual "reward" of a drink.

Well done! Keep truckin
