Stress in Newfound Sobriety
I am dealing with huge amounts of stress in my life right now.
For the first time w/o any drugs or alcohol...
I feel ill equipped to deal with my emotions, particularly depression
the depression lingers for so long i finally start saying to myself, why not use?
it is better than this????
i have tried everything to feel better
meditation, prayer
i just cannot seem to snap out of this ....
what is up with this? and is this the reason behind my substance abuse? self medicating to adjust for my depressive nature????
and if so, now what?:wtf2

Welcome to SR.....
My long term situational depression is why I quit
drinking and started AA. It's been very beneficial for me.
It's always wise to see your doctor and be honest.
Then the 2 of you can work out what you need.
Sorry to know of your situation.....

Sometimes. . . . . .
Whilst waiting to get the medical help already suggested, I've folund, even after 2years of sobriety it is a good thing to eat some sweets/candy or chocolate and to sleep, or if possible find some distraction, talk or 'phone someone, it breaks the cycle, a good walk even.
When I first got sober I lived on soya milk, sweets and cigarettes for the first three months, since which time I still do, in moderation. It is easy to be to hard on yourself whilst also expecting to much, good luck!
Don't beat yourself up, okay.
