Hello everyone, I'm new here and this is actually the first time I've ever posted in any forum of any kind. I found this site about a week ago by using a google search in hopes of finding alternatives to attending AA meetings. At this point in recovery I have 79 days clean..And I'm doing great and hoping to keep it up.

I think that AA is challenging for those of us who have other so-called social issues. I am not comfortable in crowds; I do not like sitting in rooms hoping to be called upon. It was not fun to be dumped by my sponsor for not complying with her interpretation of AA rules.
It is difficult to stand outside after a meeting, awkward and alone, hoping to make a connection with someone, or worse yet, to walk up to a group of people and face potential rejection if you don't fit the m.o. (never did, which is why alcohol was so appealing). I often left AA/NA feeling more lonely and isolated than when I arrived.

For me, there is no solution other than AA/NA.
I wish everyone well in their journey.

It was like formating my hard drive
When I first sobered up and got blatant honest with myself, I had to clean out all virus, saved junk, and had to get new windows and format everything. When you format..... you overwrite any existing useless information in your head that keep your mind sick. When you have a sick mind; naturally you lead an unmanageable life (computer) Would you operate your computer mate?
I was also dropped off at an AA meeting when I was 15 (30 years ago). I have had many start overs in my life and have turned to AA many of those times.
But like others, I have issues with the program that are personal. I do see the beauty of it and I totally see how it is valuable and necessary for others.
One of my best and longest periods of sobriety was through program here in Houston called Palmer Drug Addiction Program (PDAP). It is for younger people under 25 and when I was in my early 20s it saved my life. It was different in that we are all young, but it was a copy of the AA model.
At this time in my life I want another way - if there is another way. If I get to where it is what I need to survive then I am man enough to walk back through the doors.
If you see my other thread - I am back again and still inside my first 24 hours of getting sober again. So I have a few days ahead of me to test my mettle.
I'm not powerless either, but my batteries sure are drained right now.
