my 19 year old has been doing the yowling thing for about a year now. she started some of it around the time that my other one was sick and had to be put to sleep and then after my husband passe she continued and still does to this day. i have her on anti-anxiety meds and that's helped some but not totally. i think it's like the vet said - they need to hear themselves and i think peaches just is looking for attention since i'm gone all day at work.

no words of wisdom except earplugs! LOL

I did a little reading up about yowling last night. It seems to go with a cat getting older, and also with thyroid hyperactivity (which is what Toby gets medication for). And outdoor cats who are changed to indoor cats do this (Toby isn't an "indoor" cat now, but is a "supervised" outdoor cat, still a change.

Any of these can cause yowling, and Toby qualifies in all of them. I don't think any of it is stress and don't want to medicate him more than he already is.

It's a rainy day here today, so I'm going to take notice of how much of the time he "yowls".

peaches is on thyroid medication also so maybe there is some truth to that. good luck - i know it can get unbearable at times - peaches yowls so loud you would think that she is in pain. i do notice that sometimes when i come up behind her, that she doesn't seem to notice i'm there so maybe she has lost some of her hearing also.

Our border collie, Dusty, is deaf and he barks alot, so I think both the deafness and the thyroid issues may be coming into play. I also remember having a mama cat that lost some of her kittens who would do the yowling thing. I thought it was because she was missing her babies. I don't know. Cats are mysterious little creatures, as B. Kliban once put it.

Love and hugs,
Eddie

Does anyone have any wise advice on how to keep a dog from grazing like a cow??? One of our dogs, the big one, eats huge quantities of grass. This causes him considerable gastro upset, not to mention the dry heaving and gagging he does when he first comes into the house.

I asked our vet and he said some dogs just really, really like grass, but it's terrible for their teeth and digestive system. His grass eating picks up in the summer and he's been leaving a daily present in the house and it ain't pretty! I'm halfway tempted to buy him a muzzle for when he goes outside, but not sure he'd adapt (he's 9).

Toby only eats grass once in a while, but throws it up too when he does. I didn't know it wasn't good for them and I didn't know dogs ate grass too.

Here's my latest picture of Toby sleeping next to my desk...if you look close you can see him smiling. He dreams, talks in his sleep and smiles sometimes too.

Don't know what to tell you, deedee. Sorry. But, hey, my critters dream, talk in their sleep, and smile, too. The dogs and the cats both.

Well, time to head out. Have a beautiful day, y'all!!
Love and hugs,
Eddie

Okay, I'm with you on the dreaming part, which also involves twitching and crying in their sleep. We also have a snorer - Dakota biddy - but I think that's because she's so well-nourished.

I was trying to get a picture of my "pet" foxes who travel along the shore each daybreak and dusk, but it had gotten a tad dark and this is all I got...kinda scary, yes?

And Toby's "What do you mean someone knocked over the plant?" look...

My westie, Jack, was a cow in a former life, I'm convinced.
He likes nothing better than an early morning graze
