The Sound Of Your Soul

You can't hear the sound of your soul if your life is full of noise.
That is why those who are more enlightened recommend a daily time of quiet, reflection, meditation...call it what you will.
Your soul...your best self, has a sound all it's own.
Sometimes you can hear it through all of the noise of life.
But most of the time, that sound can only be heard through reflective listening. So take a few moments each day.
Turn down the TV or the radio.
Quiet your own voice.
Go for a walk.
Do some personal writing...
and listen for the song of yourself.

You know when I find something I think is really important to me I either print it or write it then stick it to the inside of the toilet door - which means no matter what I'll sit quietly and look at it many times a day!!

Not that peeing is the ONLY quiet time!

I think peeing maybe funnier over the pond or it might just be me - D does tell me I give more information in that department than is required!!

I've always found it a break from life. I remember the years before adult confidence kicked in (about 25 for me - I was a little backwards!!) and I used to agree to go to nightclubs. I'd sneak off to the loo wade through the crying in front of the mirror ladies and find that precious cubicle - PEACE!!! It was in there that the club world outside really did seem insane, outside on the dance floor where everyone smiled, inside in the (is it a washroom in the US?) toilets where so many cried. The music was dulled, I'd chew toilet paper to plug my ears and plan how to convince the group that leaving early would mean beating the taxi queue, look at my watch and tell myself only ..... to go!

When I was a kid and the rows kicked off it was still a place of peace, a moment to catch breath, a shut door.

I love how my life has changed - now it's just the best place for reminders not an escape pod!! None the less when I think of me time the years when that was the toilet do tend to spring to mind!!

Alas, there are many days when that is the only quiet time I get.

Nothing will throw me more off balance than not getting my quiet time. It is what sustains me. Thank goodness Mr. Hope and I were on the same page when we entered into this relationship. Quiet, alone time was one of the things that we spoke of.

I used to think I had to fill in the "gaps" in life. I did not allow room for the inbetweens in much. Today, those gaps represent "pause" for me. We need to pause in the still, to quiet our spirits which opens us up to really listening to our inner voice. Or just for that time where we need to do nothing else but "be".

I think from a young age, this is something that our children should be taught. It will serve them all throughout their lives.
