Ready. Set. Go.
First say to yourself what you should be; and then do what you have to do.
Epictecus.
Each of us is becoming many things in our lives—a spiritual person, a friend, a family member, a worker, a member of groups, a citizen, a person with a particular hobby. In each of these areas, it helps to have an idea what kind of person we want to be: What kind of spouse? What kind of sponsor? What kind of artist or hunter or parent or friend?
Often we form these personal goals by watching other people. We want to be as good a sponsor as our own sponsor. We want to be as good a parent as Uncle Fred or Aunt Mary. We want to be as good a golfer as Tiger Woods.
One of the gifts of our program is that it teaches us how to do what we need to do to reach our goals. We set the goal, we take a good look at our own skills, we learn about how to do it, and we ask for the help and support of people who can teach us.
Then we practice!
