We are brave people.

Fortune favors the brave.
Terence.

Many of us had some strange ideas about bravery. We thought alcohol or drugs could give us courage. Now we know that what we got was not bravery; all we got was a way to deny our fear. We didn’t know what to do with our fear, so we blotted it out by getting high. That did not make us brave; it made us act like fools.

Fear serves a good purpose. It warns us to take care. It helps us realize that some things are bigger than we are and that we need help to face them. Turning to alcohol or drugs was the old way. The new way in recovery is to ask for help from someone whom we can trust.

When we ask for help from our Higher Power, a sponsor, a friend, a teacher, or a boss, we get real help. When we trust this help, that’s what makes us brave. If we are going to live a full life, we will take risks every day. We will need to be brave every day. And that’s no problem when we have help that is available and trustworthy.

From the book God grant me.

We are brave . . . . . it's easy to stay out there and drink . . . it takes real courage to get sober.

I agree, and that courage is something to be proud of every single day.

I have been so brave in certain situations (ie, fire fighting). But when it comes to relationships and dealing with feelings... so many mistakes.
