Happier Sober.
We all live with the aim of being happy; our lives are all different and yet all the same.
Anne Frank.
All normal people want to be happy. It is a natural craving. People all over the world understand what a smile means.
There is one thing addicts want more than happiness. When we were in our active addiction, we gave up happiness for our alcohol and drugs. We started to use them because we thought drinking or getting high would make us happy—and it did in the beginning. But the cost became heavy. Addiction took our happiness away, yet we still wanted it more than happiness.
The program teaches us that we are born to be happy, and we can find our way to happiness by doing the work of the Steps and living responsibly. We will know pain at times, of course. We will know fear, and life will not be perfect every minute.
But in the center of it all, we can be happy.
