Trevor's inspiration.
Yesterday, after reading Historyteach's thread that Trevor posted on Faces-of-addiction, I was finally motivated to send Sue my story. I had told her before that I would submit it. Here it is:

(((Laurie)))
Thank you for sharing your story...
...every face we put on addiction breaks down preconceived bigoted ideas about addicts. The human being lost. The son, daughter; the husband, wife, so; the uncle, aunt or other extended family; the friend. All had dreams for themselves. All are loved by someone. All are in pain.
May we - society - make the decisions to treat this illness rather than scorn the human being within. They don't need any more shame. They've got enough. Humanizing the addict is an important step.
Laurie, you know it's important for us to hear of success stories. How it gives us hope. Thank you for opening up your world. Your courage is inspiring...
Shalom!
