What an extensive list! I am not coming up with anything not already listed, although I'll add a plug for When a Man Loves a Woman. Great movie! And early in the thread someone mentioned The Morning After with Jane Fonda. Came out in '86. I'm pretty sure I saw that in the theatre when it came out. Now I feel really old! lol But that reminded me of another movie from that era, Looking for Mr. Goodbar. Not sure if it qualifies for this list, but it does involve a fair bit of drug use.

"Requiem for a dream" Really tough to watch at times, but great look at the no win aspect of addiction. "Flight" gets the alcoholism behaviors just right.

I just rewatched Crazy Heart, the movie Jeff Bridges won an Oscar for. He's an alcoholic country singer, reminded me a lot of my old self.

Being Charlie

The trailer.

I haven't watched it yet, hoping to this weekend. It's from Rob Reiner and about his son. I saw interviews with him about it and it looks like it should be really good.

I know it's already been listed but I watched 28 days a few days ago and I could relate sooo much to it. Plus it has Sandra Bullock so it's got a bit of a "rom com" feel-good aspect to it, if you like that type of stuff. I really enjoyed it!

"Blow" is another good one. Johnny Depp is stellar, as usual.

As far as recovery series...Nurse Jackie is a good one. So is Breaking Bad, Shameless, and Recovery Road.

I like Flight. Ain't No Sunshine, one of my favorite songs, great for that scene.

I have When a Man Loves a Woman. Haven't watched it yet, but from reading the back, the wife is an alcoholic.

I guess, one of the best for me is the film: "The Days of Wine and Roses" . This a good movie to help one realize the negative effects of alcoholism and finally how to overcome it.
