Objective, compassionate, indifference ...
Accepting I suffer from alcoholism, which is the only illness that will kill you whilst at the same time telling you, you haven't got it, the only respite from which is total abstinence.
In recovery, which in ,my case includes a prolonged period of, hopefully lasting, sobriety.
I now find myself acting towards all people and things in an objective, though not without compassion, indifference. With particular reference to those over which I have no control e.g family, friends, the weather, the economy, politics, my death, etc...
What I do have control over is my state of mind, to include my opinions, views, judgement etc...
Reflecting on this, I can only think, bearing in mind what Marcus Aurelius said, ' Remember, it's easy to live a happy life, it's all within you. In your way of thinking.' I can only think, as it says in the book 'Alcoholics Anonymous', that recovery does really centre in the mind ...
