Luck is what happens ...
Luck is what happens ...
In my recovery involving a lot of effort on my part to restore my ability to think cognitively ( truth and reason) as opposed to the delusional life I lead in my drinking days.
I've learned a lot from the ancient Stoic philosophers ( nothing new under the sun right!) Epictetus, Marcus Aurelius and Seneca perhaps not least because it's strongly linked to the words of 'The Serenity Prayer' ...
So I like this from Seneca,'Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.'
Which to me, on reflection means if I didn't recognise and accept my alcoholism, the drinking being but a symptom, and take the necessary actions to restore myself to sanity ( jury's still out on that one....progress is sometimes slow as I'm still having to learn the extent of my own stupidity) I'd never had any 'luck' at all and still be in the same pit I'd dug for myself in my drinking days.
Which proves, amongst many other things, these 'ole boys knew a thing or to' about life and recovery which can help s all!
