'The Captains and the Kings depart,'

I sometimes liken my recovery to these words in Rudyard Kipling's poem/prayer 'Recessional', written to commemorate the end of the First World War, in which many died, including his own son, Jack.

'The Captains and the Kings depart, (alcohol)

Still stands Thine ancient sacrifice, (me)

An humble and contrite heart, (the gratitude I feel in both my recovery and the sobriety that has followed, aware that millions of people die or go insane from my disease/illness most of them wishing the latter came first.)

Lest we forget,'

Kipling is also quoted as saying the following to,

'The silliest woman can manage a clever man; but it needs a very clever woman to manage a fool.'

' God couldn't be everywhere and therefore he made Mothers,'

A lot of truth in both those statements to!
