I found out the hard way, I wasn't as different as I thought.
I thought I could sort my own self out.
2 years of doing it "my way" in AA and recovery in general ... Then four years back on the turps.
Lost job, smashed car, lost licence, court ordered intervention.
The easier option, turned out to be anything but.

AA/NA are not for everyone.
If you did not like the vibe at that meeting maybe try another one? There are other recovery groups that are not AA/NA, or there's always DIY (do it yourself) recovery/sobriety.

I have no idea if AA is required to get to where a person needs to be in their sobriety. I think a support group of some sort with individuals that have been down similar paths is very helpful. SR seems to be a place that allows this expression which is similar to an AA meeting.
