Weakness into Strength
By recognizing and admitting your own weaknesses, you begin to move beyond them. When you're clear and honest about what you need to work on, you can make real progress.
When you identify a weakness, you've found an opportunity. By exploring what's holding you back, you can create a realistic and workable path to success.
Weakness is nothing to hide from or to be ashamed of. For in each weakness is the promise of real strength.
From each weakness there is much that you can learn. By understanding your limitations, you can find a way around them.
Instead of constantly fighting against your weaknesses, work on getting rid of them completely. Then all your time and energy can be put into moving quickly ahead.
Have the courage to look clearly at your weaknesses. What you'll see in each one is the potential to create powerful, effective new strength.

I'd like to add this to Ann's beautiful post: If everyone chooses a unique standard for weakness, based on what is most harmful to themselves, and relative to immediate desires, everyone's view of right and wrong becomes part of their self image. In order to grow in this individualistic way, the self image must suffer in order that superior Truth be accepted.
There are some popular notions among recovering addicts and alcoholics, and I differentiate only for the sake of the few who are offended by the word addict, that are flat out wrong, and result in strongholds of deceit being built in the person, from which there is no easy escape.
Strongholds are areas in our hearts that are dark, places we don't know ourselves, and the source of fears, anxiety, sadness, guilt, wickedness, revenge, envy, pride, greed, lust, gluttony, sloth, mental instability, inability to accept Truth, never ending cycles of sinful behavior, sexual dysfunction, godless perversion, compulsivity, chronic debt, irresponsibility, not living up to one's full potential, an endless string of heartbreak, discomfort or anxiety around people, inability to give and receive love and forgiveness,
fears of letting one's real self and feelings show, fascination with the occult (Taro, Ouija, gambling, dark healing, reiki, yoga, martial arts, astral projection, use of playing cards, Astrology, horoscopes:
Let me give you an example:
Horoscope Leo 8-11-2007
Waking up was a task for you today, but wait, there's better news. You, or someone you know is attracted to a very special person of the opposite sex. Today is the day to buy that person a card, or small gift to show you were thinking about him/her.
But watch out if your new lover is married. You'll have to take the love while it's hot, possibly on a trip to Vegas. The stars predict you could really use a vacation, somewhere warm, getting waited on hand and foot. This is because of the astrological king in Leo.
Because Virgo is in the seventh house, everything in the present is linked to the past. You will see something today that reminds you of an important past event, possibly from long ago. That moment lives on in the cosmos, and you can tap into it by opening your mind.
Now look around. Everything will remind you of something in your past. But don't worry. This is called ethereal concupiscence, and all that means is your feelings have been hurt. But you can rise above this with your superior emotional ability, and making that critical change in life. The old love you hang to is the old past that's over. Put on some hot looking clothes, and go shopping for the person who will really make you happy.
You're full of confidence because today is an astrological risk day for Leo, where a very high statistical chance of success at life's goals permeates. You should not be afraid of this. It is in the stars.
The broken glass signifies a shattered dream, or fear of death. At one time you feared death. At other times you weren't afraid of death. However, you have never both feared, and not feared death at the same time.
You have never contemplated how the cracks in pavement affect your destiny. Your life can take off like a hot little new sports car on the road to life. This is the time for Leo to gain money, love, and power. You deserve it because the stars have said so.

That is an example of superstition at work. It makes people feel good, and it applies to a vast majority of people who read horoscopes, but it isn't true. That's the problem with recovery for most people. They are getting advice from people who have no idea of what's going on.
People will believe anything if they don't have anything better to believe. Changing basic weaknesses into strengths requires the rejection of strongholds that cause people to believe a certain way. Humans are the only species that will keep going down the same dead end as long as they believe it's the right way.
Alcohol is not cunning, baffling, or powerful. It is a chemical, like all other chemicals, that has legitimate uses, and illegitimate uses. Here's the crux: What is meant by legitimate and illegitimate. If everyone chooses their own list to apply to legitimate and illegitimate no one will know what anyone is talking about when they use those words.
That's where the need for a reference standard for Truth comes in. I have never seen more failure than addicts and alcoholics trying to abstain from chemical intoxication, and return to a state previous to when the problems started.
There is only the present. There is no future, or past in the present. This is how enemy strongholds are built. Chemical abusers inevitably base the present and future on the past. All people naturally need to do this so we don't make the same mistake twice.
If our view is faithful to The Truth, the past takes on a totally different meaning, and the future is irrevocably unpredictable. If the mind knows Truth, which is the object of the mind; and the heart knows forgiveness and love; this mind will love his own heart, and the soul will be born. It is the soul that frees the body from chemical dependence.
God The Father is The Mind of God. God The Son, Jesus Christ, is The Heart of God. Love from God The Father given to God The Son becomes The Soul of God, or The Holy Spirit. Truth + Love + Justice = Perfection = Unity = One God. It is The Justice of God that each person know The Love The Father has for The Son in his own heart.
Man's mind naturally seeks God's Mind. Man's heart seeks God's Heart. Man's soul seeks God's Soul. If man finds the Mind, Heart, and Soul of God, man becomes like God, and this is why God created a man in Their Own image, so the created man would become like Them.
The reference standard Truth for alignment with God is The One True Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church. This road to recovery leads to immortality. No one can recover from sin without Forgiveness from Jesus Christ, in The Holy Sacrament of Penance.
I have seen The Power of God over addiction. It's like a car tire flattening a styrofoam coffee cup. If anyone is sincere to answering Gods Call, and is willing to give up anything to hang on to God, that person will, in time, be blessed with everything he/she always hoped for.
I can't give any details of my experience, and immortality in everlasting paradise is not for everyone. The road is difficult. A person needs to be chosen for the mission. The person must practice Roman Catholicism, and be eager to learn about it. Roman Catholicism is based on a maxim that is one of the earliest recorded writings by The Sons of Man:
If you know a being['s name, and you take on its nature, you have access to its power. No one knew the language this was written in, or what the meaning was, until I looked at it in a picture, and deciphered it's meaning.
If you know The Name Jesus Christ, and you take on His Nature, You will be Immortal, with Absolute Power to Rule and Judge 'The All', as A Son of God in The Eternity, forever.
There is one footnote: The way God designed mankind, man is the image of God, and woman is the image of man. When a woman commits a sin, it is against her husband, and should be confessed to her husband. Her husband will decide whether or not she is forgiven, and depending on this, will either offer the sin to Jesus Christ, or hold it bound to his wife.
Unmarried women, especially women soiled by divorce, fornication, using birth control, abortion, godless perversion, cohabitation, or sodomy should definitely receive The Holy Roman Catholic Sacrament of Penance as soon as possible so they can be pure and holy, ready to become a chaste and modest wife.
Before anyone throws a fit. I said this road is not for everyone. If it doesn't apply to you, that's fine. But don't keep it away from the people it does apply to.
