rock and recovery
i dont know if this is the rite place to ask .but when i was using i liked to go to clubs and watch bands. now im in A.A.thay say sober pepole places.i do miss watching the bands and was wandering what anyone else thaught about this thanks eddie

My thinking is that those early in recovery ought to stay out of slippery places for a while. Remember, recovery is a day at a time process...
As much as I enjoy live music (I'm a musician myself), I am not willing to risk my life to go see a band. I do know AAs who will go to shows in groups. Strength in numbers...
My band has been fortunate to have been asked to play a couple of shows at a local 12-Step clubhouse. Everybody in attendance was sober and seemed to have a great time, despite what Frank Zappa reportedly once said:
"The drunker you get, the better we sound".

This came up an an AA meeting I was at recently. One memorable comment I heard was "we pray ever day 'lead us not unto temptation'. It seems silly, in early sobriety, to voluntarily walk into temptation".
