Sadly we let ****** go. Sophie said he had little or no quality of life. She said it was definitely cancer and that it had spread - she could feel the lumps. He wasn't eating and even though I was syringing him, he had become very dehydrated. He was also losing the sight in his eyes. Even when she was preparing the medication to let him go, he was purring away. I do feel we have done the right thing. He had lost over a pound in weight in 2 weeks but that was because the cancer was stopping him absorbing the food. I shall miss him very much but I do feel I was happy to have him for nearly 15 years. He was my first show cat but all he ever won was 'cat or kitten judge would msot like to take home' and in those days, that meant the world to me. He was a lovely gentle natured cat.RIP ****** 2/8/1999- 12/06/2014.

I'm so sorry, Quish. This just breaks my heart. My 15 year old cat has had to lumpectomies for cancer and this last one didn't heal nearly as quickly or as easily as the first. I've decided not to put her through that again. If another lump appears, I'm just going to keep her happy and comfortable as long as possible, then let her go when she starts losing life quality. I hate the thought and your post just showed me my future and makes me so sad. ((((HUGS))))

Hello all I'm so glad I found this group. I've been a member for a year or so and had no idea... First let me say Quish I'm so sorry for your loss.
My Flo has chronic renal failure and has been sick since November.
I'm struggling with the fact that the end is fast approaching and am sorry to admit ive relapsed from the stress.
I've not picked up my drugs of choice alcohol + opiates I still have allmost 2 years sober from those . I had been off the weed for 3 months and gave in to it + cigarettes.
Trying not to beat myself up I'm sure you all can understand. Flo is rallying once again
IV fluids are keeping her comfortable and she's eating but vomiting too.
Anyone else have experience with crf kitties? I'll know it's time when she stops eating all together. She was an aggressive depressed girl at a no kill shelter I volunteered at 6 years ago. I knew she was loosing the will to live and no one would take her.
I took her home and a few years later she developed into a purring lap sitting licking happy girl. Which is all I ever wanted for her.
I stand with you Quish you are not alone in your sorrow.
Thanks for listening
Artful

I'm so sorry Quish. I am absolutely heartbroken for you. It is NEVER easy to lose a beloved friend. You are in my heart. I can't imagine how badly you must feel. I wish I had words to make you feel better.

So sorry about ****** Quish. I think it's the best form of love to let them go when their life has lost it's quality. I hope I'll be brave enough when the time comes.

Thanks for asking Mammahawk. Feeling disappointed in myself for addict behavior but not wallowing in self hatred! It's hard letting go of a kitty friend. Trying to value living in the moment and counting my blessings if that makes sense?
Peace
Artful

Artful don't feel disappointed in yourself. Every time we fail is a lesson. A chance to start over. You have quit before right? You can do it again. Don't let yourself feel bad another minute. Make a change and feel proud. Negative thoughts destroy us. Find something positive to focus on. Anything. I'm only 27 days clean after 20 yrs of addiction so I don't have any smarts about to offer you. But I can offer you my heart. My friendship. An ear to listen. I'll be there for you friend.

And I'm sorry about your kitty. I had one for 19 years and it was a ling long time before I could open my heart to kitty cats again. She went to sleep under her tree one day and went on to wait for me. It broke my heart. I'm glad I didn't have to put her down. I could not have stood it.

Thanks Mamahawk and Venuscat - I am ok - I KNOW I did the right thing for Voo.
Artful yes I have had experience of CRF - I lost 17.5 year old Galliano last year. I guess you have tried the special diet?Sadly, by the time it is picked up in blood tests it is usually well advanced. Wish I could be more helpful but if I were to give advice it would be to treasure every day. If she is being sick then it sounds as if it is well advanced and I would guess she has lost a substantial amount of weight. She is so lucky to have you and I KNOW like me you will do your very best for her. At the end of the day it comes down to quality of life but it is never an easy decision -believe me I know that.
Suki I feel for you too - just treasure every day and yes when the time comes, you will be able to do the right thing for your precious baby.
I am due kittens with my darling Georgie (Marchesa) in next few days so I have to glue myself together for her - she is my little shadow right now. New life will keep me mega busy and I do have my other cats who need my love and reassurance so I am coping. Every one of us here has a special relationship with their cat so thank you for being there for me - I do appreciate it very much.

I don't know if it helps but one of my Maine Coons had intestinal cancer and given his age it wasn't treatable. He had quality of life for several months, and actually died in his sleep. He was 17.5. The previous day he had eaten well - he was blind so I had a hospital pen in the lounge, and he would go in it and yowl to be fed. He was a totally indoor cat so we managed his blindess well. I wish your little one all the happiness. I had another cat with cancer and we did the bioposy and had the lumps removed but they came back too and like you, we just couldn't put him through it again. He was 13. Give your little one a cuddle from me - it is so hard when they are ill but you sound as if you are doing everything you can. Take care of yourself too.

I am fine thanks - just taking it day by day and trying to back into routine for my other cats who are stressed. Last few weeks, my life has revolved around Voo - feeding, weighing, tablets, vet visits and there is a huge gap without him. But my pregnant Georgiew needs me so I am doing my best for her. Little madame does not want to go in maternity pen at night and spent part of night clawing door keeping me awake. She will be fine once she has the kittens - her mother and auntie were the same. My cats are primarily pets not breeding queens o don't like being confined. But it is for her safety, because I don't dare risk kittens born under the bed or sofa. Hope you and your family are doing ok?

I can't wait to see the kittens. Is it any day? It must be so exciting. I'm thinking of you and your precious voo. I am doing great. Made it to 29 days today! I feel strong and reborn. I'm getting close to my mama again. We spend so much time together! I stayed busy tiday cooking, cleaning, shopping, taking care of hubby and my boys and of course my kitty babies. My sons call me the kitty mama and say I let the cats get away with much more than I did them! Lol thanks for asking!
