He had glaucoma in his right eye and the meds they gave him didn't reduce the pain and pressure enough so the only option was to remove his eye. Now he's back to his old self, eating and drinking and running around the yard. He's old too, he'll be 15 in April.

Aaah ok. I asked because my baby, Esther, had to have both of her eyes removed when she was a puppy. She was totally blind at birth....but also had severe glaucoma and some other issue in her eyes, both of which were causing pain....so they removed her eyes. She's so damn cute - just looks like her eyes are closed. And you would honestly never know she was blind. She uses her other senses to get around and does great!

Hello, folks--I have been going through a tough time w/the recent loss of my 15-year-old basset, Ned (my avatar). Today I thought I remembered there being a thread for dog people, thinking I remembered posting on it a few years ago when I had to let another, even older, basset hound go. I went "in search of", and here you are!

If anyone wants to read the backstory w/the basset as well as see the new dog that has come to live w/me and my remaining dog, Daisy, this link will take you to the thread. The dog part starts at post #8. https://www.soberrecovery.com/forums...-part-3-a.html (Earth Prayers, part 3)

I'm looking forward to getting caught up on the previous posts, talking w/some members I already know and meeting others I haven't met yet. Wishing everyone a happy Easter, including those that have 2 legs, those that have 4, and those that may have only 3!

Story about a rescued dog who alerted family to a fire near a home. Pretty special dog.

Betsy Reyes of Oklahoma City says her dog, Princess, sneaks out at night and sits outside McDonald's, pretending to be a stray. Reyes shared photographic evidence of her sneaky dog sitting in the local McDonald's parking lot at night.

gizmo and stella_resize smaller.jpg

This thread used to be so active....

Just want to post a pic of my two newest fosters. Stella (on the right) and Gizmo. Their owner went into the hospital and couldn't care for them. Our group took them in and I agreed to foster. I thought they would find homes quick, but not everyone wants two 11 year old dogs--we are trying to rehome them together as a bonded pair.

I have a 17 year old Chiweenie names Sir Bradley. He is my best friend and has been my constant, by my side since I was 17 years old. I am 35 today. He has saved my life so many times. I had my first depressive episode at 17 and since then he has always been there with me.

Many times I thought I could not go on, he kept me here. I love him more than anything and I know it will hurt immensely when I lose him.

He is currently laying, sleeping by my side, curled up like a Danish roll. I feel that I am alone.

I found a good way to get Billie to take her vitamin in the morning. I just lay it by the edge of the kitchen table and she thinks it's cat food and gobbles it right down! (the cats' dishes are on the table) She thinks she's getting away with stealing cat food...

I don't care what she thinks as long as she's getting her vitamin.
